Chronic inflammatory responses underlie the pathogenesis of many human diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and cardiovascular disease but also play a major role in the initiation progression and spread of cancers.

Major mediators of chronic inflammatory responses are cytokines macrophages and dendritic cells. This program has a strong clinical focus, but is also largely laboratory based. It is directed to gaining a better understanding of these disorders and then utilize this knowledge to improve diagnosis, management and therapy of the conditions in question.
