The Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine Research Unit conducts research, including multinational NHMRC-funded clinical trials, in the following areas:
- The impact of different interventions on postoperative complications such as surgical site infections and lung/pulmonary complications
- The effect of different pain relief measures
- Identification of high-risk patients and early intervention measures to prevent poor pain outcomes
- Development of an online pain management tool ‘Reboot Online’
In addition, the St Vincent’s Acute Pain Medicine Unit leads the field in acute pain management in Australia. Based on their research, the team developed ROSI (Resources for Opioid Stewardship Implementation tool kit), a national resource for opioid stewardship, which is endorsed by the Faculty of Pain Medicine and hosted on the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) website.
