Dr Craig Haifer is a clinical and academic gastroenterologist at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney. Dr Haifer completed a PhD at The University of Sydney assessing the role of the gut microbiome and faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in the management of various conditions, including ulcerative colitis. During this time, Dr Haifer led the national guidelines on the use of FMT and completed the first clinical trial of orally administered capsule FMT in the management of ulcerative colitis. Dr Haifer works clinically at St Vincent’s Sydney Public and Private Hospitals and is a conjoint Associate Professor at UNSW, where he is actively investigating the role of the microbiome in the development of various diseases and the utility manipulating the microbiome to either treat or prevent disease development.Â
