Associate Professor Mark Danta is a clinical academic, and a gastroenterologist and hepatologist at St Vincent's Hospital and the Centre of Applied Medical Research. He is actively involved with research and has three themes of focus: gut health and the microbiome in disease (gastrointestinal and other); clinical hepatology (non-invasive assessment of liver disease and complications of cirrhosis); hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) A/Prof. Danta has over 15 years’ experience in clinical trials, as principal and co-investigator, in both investigator and pharmaceutical industry-sponsored studies. He is currently involved in industry-sponsored trials within the area of NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis), PBC (Primary biliary cholangitis - autoimmune disease of the liver), and HCC (hepatocellular carcinoma - liver cancer). His other areas of interest are viral hepatitis B & C, and HIV co-infection A/Prof. Danta graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Newcastle in 1992. He also holds a Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (University of London 1996), Master of Public Health (University of Sydney 2002), and a Doctorate of Medicine (University of London, 2006). He has been a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians since 2002.
