Head Researcher: Samuel Milliken

Samuel Milliken

The Haematology Clinical Trials Unit is dedicated to pioneering research across a spectrum of diseases. The trials span from Phase 1 to 4, encompassing a variety of disease areas including haematological cancers (multiple myeloma, lymphoma, leukaemia), autoimmune diseases, stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy.

The unit consists of a team of experienced researchers and healthcare professionals that work collaboratively with internal and external partners, including pharmaceutical companies, to maintain the highest standards of patient care and scientific integrity. The Clinical Trials Unit provides opportunity for patients to gain access to cutting-edge treatments and contribute to the development of future therapies. The goal is to advance medical knowledge and develop innovative diagnostic tests and treatments to improve patient outcomes.

Clinical Stem Cell and Cellular Therapy Laboratory – Enabling Our Clinical Trials

St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney is a major stem cell transplant centre in Australia, accredited internationally by the Joint Accreditation Committee of ISCT and EMBT (JACIE) and within Australia by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA).

The Clinical SC/CT Laboratory is an integral part of the transplant unit and provides processing of bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cells, and immune effector cells to treat haematological cancers, autoimmune diseases, and solid tumours. This laboratory also processes stem cells and effector cells for other transplant centres nationally and internationally. In recent years, the laboratory has increased the repertoire of diseases being treated including multiple sclerosis and systemic sclerosis, and processes immune effector cells for clinical trials to aid the translation of potential new treatments. The laboratory is expanding its cellular therapy capabilities, with the recent acquisition of two fully automated cell-processing instruments.
